The Lightning Thief

The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan, is a novel that describes the challenges a recent demi-god comes across in order to terminate the brewing war between his father, the sea god Poseidon, and Zeus, the god of the skies. While Percy is experiencing the external conflict of the prospect of war, the internal conflict of his mother being captured overtakes him. Percy sets out on a dangerous quest to the underworld with Anabeth and Grover, being the only person who knew the last two lines of his prophesy:

"You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend
And you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end."

The Lightning Thief is a book in which a straightforward answer results in a twist and even the smallest of decisions is life-changing. A combination of ancient Greek mythology and today's reality, The Lightning Thief is a perfect read for anyone who enjoys stories to be as clear as life yet with action that balances the description.
